Domain 1:  Communication

This domain focuses on communication strategies and practices that encourage two-way feedback, incorporate a variety of formats, and use family-friendly language.  Effectively communicating with families is an essential element to family engagement and is the foundation to building partnerships between school, families and the community.  
 

Domain 2:  Family Support

This domain focuses on family support strategies and practices that build family members capacity to support the academic needs of students and that respect families as equal partners.  Providing family support is an ongoing process which works to maintain the structures for maximum family participation and reflects the diversity of the school.   
 

Domain 3:  Decision Making

This domain focuses on decision making strategies and practices that ensure family members are well informed and active participants when providing feedback about the learning process.  Engaging families in the decision making process involves the schools and districts’ efforts to seek input from all stakeholders.
 

Domain 4:  Partnerships

This domain focuses on partnership strategies and practices that support opportunities for the school to be an integral part of the home, school and community network.  Establishing partnerships bring families, schools and communities together to collaboratively improve outcomes.
